Cycling Bangkok, MTB and Bicycle Sightseeing Trail

Languages French Language
Bangkok Bicycle Sightseeing Trail. Cycle around unseen Bangkok for an exciting look at The City of Angels, mysterious temples and untravelled suburbia.

There are many mtb and cycling tour operators in Bangkok and these companies offer some really nice bike and long tailed boat cycling tours. As Bangkok locals we did a bit of research into what the cycling visitors/tourists coming to Bangkok were looking for and put together a couple of really nice cycling routes that take you from the urban jungle of Bangkok, to BKK's outskirts and untravelled suburbia.

Easy route (combined cycling and long tail boat/tuk tuk or taxi)
Very easy paced cycling cycling takes you on two boat trips/or tuk tuk trips and a bike ride. Starting from Khao san Rd the route will take through some small lanes (soi's) in the Banglamphu area passing Ratanakosin park and fort on the way. The trail then goes over Rama VIII bridge crossing the Chao Phya river.

You can then be picked up by a long tail boat, if you are doing the route by boat and bike you will need to arrange for a pick up and drop off this can be arranged with the long tail boat drivers who stay under pinklao bridge.

The first pickup by the boat would need to be from the park/gardens which is near Rama 8 bridge (It should take about 15 to 20 mins to ride there from Pinklao Bridge) when you ride across the bridge the gardens will be on the left with a wall running around the outside and a pier. The boat needs to take you to Taling Chan Floating Market. (if you don't want to do this first part you can easily get a Long Tail boat straight from under pinklao bridge to the market).

The route then takes you on your bike through some busy streets and then to a quiet side of Bangkok. On the way you will experience local life and see some mysterious ancient temples which date back to the Ayutthaya period. There is an option to stop at a local restaurant beside the river for some traditional Thai food.

Continue the ride passing some more temples and arriving at the famous Wat Chalor temple (a giant temple shaped like an ancient boat). For the final part of the trip the long Tail boat needs to take you from Wat Chalor for 25 mins back to Pinklao bridge.

Please see the Map below for the route, Don't forget to arrange with a long tail boat for pickups and dropoff before you start from under pinklao bridge also make sure you agree on a price. Alternitivly you could do the same and replace the boat with a tuk tuk or taxi but the boat is much more fun and interesting.

Bangkok Cycling Trail (trip 1)    |    Medium level Trip

Medium Trip(combined cycling and long tail boat)
is a bit more difficult than the easy. The cycling Trail starts from Khao san Rd and ends at wat Chalor. The ride first goes over Rama 8 bridge. It then takes you through some busy and quiet back streets of Bangkok passing temples, local shop and local houses until it final follows the same route as the easy ride near the floating market. For the final part of the trip you will need to take a long tail boat so you can see sights such as the famous Wat Arun from the boat you will need to arrange for a long tail boat to pick you up at wat chalor before you start Another option is to cycle back. This trail is for the more experienced rider as there are a few foot bridges to cross and the tarrain can be a bit difficult at times.

You can view the trail below or if you have a gps device or gps phone you can download the trail below.
